Blast from the past

I found an O-L-D blog from a different website. I had to share. It is classic. I hope you think so.

There has been this blog sitting just OUT of reach in my sub conscious ALL day. I can feel it there and just when I think I know it will pop out it goes back in.

Hmm.... Kinda like constipation.

Blogging constipation - what a concept.

Where is the blogging laxative. I want to get it out!

Sometimes I crack myself up...I guess that is what is important.

Toilet Cleaning - required life training

How many toilets have you cleaned lately? Do you clean your own? I'm surprised how many people can not answer yes to that question. Even worse, how many toilets have you cleaned that belong to other people or public toilets?

Now you may ask why on earth would I want to do such a nasty dirty job? Well someone has to clean them right? Do you think you are so much better than those people that clean toilets for a living? Those folks deserve a lot more respect than you probably give them! I'm sure you have seen people cleaning public restrooms in addition to your own if you hire it done. Do you thank them? Do you tell them you very much appreciate the work they are doing? Heck do you even acknowledge their presence and smile at them? Well you should if you don't.

I will take it one step further. If you have never cleaned a public toilet you should. I guarantee it will be a very humbling experience. You may gag and you may even vomit, but clean up after yourself and think about things for a while. You are equal to those people that clean toilets - no better - no worse but the same. The next time YOU make a mess in a public toilet, clean it up. Don't leave it for those poor workers to clean up after you. They wake up and go to a job just like you. They are doing their best, why make their day worse? Isn't your job on earth to help others out?

There are even stories about this in the bible. No, not cleaning toilets but being humble. Stories about washing guests feet. That is a similar humbling thing to do. One lady went so far as to using her own hair to wash Jesus feet. That woman is to be admired even if she was a nobody to others around her. It is all done to make a point.

Now, let's take this one step further. How many toilets have your children cleaned? If they are above age 10, they need to do this. They need to be taught this valuable lesson in life. Half way cleaning will not get the story to sink in. Heck, I make my kids go do - over many times and I still wonder if any of these lessons sink in. They tell me I am a "mean mom" and NO ONE ELSE EVER has to do such things. Well all those other people are just missing out on values in life all people need to have.  Go show your children how to clean toilets. It will be a great teaching moment on multiple levels.

Yep, only I could write a blog about how cleaning toilets is a valuable lesson in this thing we call life!

Really, I am just trying to get you thinking...

Body Buttons and Guages

I hadn't thought about this much until reaching middle age when things start to wear out/go on the fritz. Our bodies can be an analogy to a car or other piece of machinery.

When we are young, we are like a shiny new car. We look good, we run great, and any dents in muscles or broken bones we have heal quickly and efficiently. We are also naive enough to think things will never change.

Then one day it does. It actually gradually happens over 10 years or so but you wake up one day and think....HOW did THIS happen?

I think I am at about 150,000 miles right now. I have some failings in various systems. First off my engine does not metabolize it's fuel as efficiently as it once did. The engine/stomach still demands the same amount of food, but since the car only tops out at 80mph instead of 150 mph the extra fuel turns directly into stomach or @ss fat. This does not look good on this older model car.

Next are the exhaust systems. This is very prone to failure in my model. It backfires something fierce and the bladder gauge never tells me the truth. One second it will be flashing red alert, get to the bathroom now or I will release here in the kitchen. Yet when you rush to the bathroom and complete the release cycle you find out it was only 1/4 full! Other times you go for hours and wonder how the bladder could handle all the backup.

Then there are the temperature gauges. These things are super sensitive in my model which has both a hot and a cold gauge. The hot gauge will not tolerate temperatures over 80 degrees. It is very prone to overheating even with proper hydration. Heat exhaustion has occurred frequently. The cold gauge is not any better. At approximately 8pm the model shuts down all heat stores and goes into freeze mode. Hands, feet, nose and especially @ss turn into ice. Core body temperature drops 2 degrees. Flannel pj's are must year round. Then 3am hits. The emergency generator kicks in and warms up the core temperature 5 degrees causing excessive sweating from the inside out. Flailing of covers and removal of all clothing occurs within seconds. Sometimes I think both gauges are on at the same time!!! This scenario is followed by sleepiness the following morning.

This article is limited to buttons and gauges but you must remember to care for with extra care the tires and body of these middle aged cars. Weekend warriors are especially susceptible to damaging the body of various models.  Healing of twice the time is likely. Same is true for filter abilities of the liver with copious amounts of alcohol consumed on weekends.  You get about 100,000 miles of wild drinking filtering ability before that organ begins its decent into what is affectionately known as "pickling" of the liver.

I hope to make it to at least 500,000 miles. I will keep making the needed repairs and hope for the best.

Have a great day!

Resolutions

Each new year I think it does a person good to think about what needs improved in their life. If you hear someone say "Nothing" they are lying to themselves. There is ALWAYS room for improvement in one's life. Go ahead take a couple minutes and think about what needs improved in your life. STOP READING UNTIL YOU HAVE THOUGHT OF SOMETHING!

See I told you you could think of something. It is good for you to recognize improvements that need to be made.

Next step is a bit harder. Yes, I am making you think about this. What can you do to make this improvement you have just thought about?  Am I asking you to do something drastic - NO. I am asking you to think about what you could do to make this improvement.  STOP READING UNTIL YOU HAVE THOUGHT OF SOMETHING!

See it isn't so hard just to think about what you can do. It is Good to think about improvements and what you can do to actually implement a piece of this improvement.

NOW is the H-A-R-D-E-S-T part. Actually do what you just thought about doing. What?!?!?!?!?

YOU
CAN
DO
THIS!

Yes, I am asking you to actually physically do what I only asked you to think about a minute earlier.  Yes, you can do this.  It will be GOOD for you to even implement even if it is only for a while.

There is always next year to extend this idea just a bit longer.

Now I am going to give you my personal example. Yours can seriously be anything from driving slower to stop smoking to walking more. I am not asking you to lose 100 pounds or run a marathon. I am only asking you to try and improve yourself for a period of time. Forever is a period of time but only if you are a real over achiever. :-)

So last year I decided I was going to eat healthier. I actually implemented this and watched myself eat healthier up until this fall after the garden ended. Then I did not do so well. Last spring I lost 8 pounds. I kept it off until this fall when I quit eating as healthy and gained it all back but one pound. I am still taking that as a win because I DID NOT gain it all back.

Now we are onto a new year. This year I am going back to eating healthy plus I would like to incorporate smaller portions into my plan.  You see it is not big things but small things that add up to big things that make a difference.

Don't worry about impressing someone else. Do something that makes you feel better. Decide to do  random acts of kindness. Plan to do it once a month. Even if throughout the year you only end up doing it twice, you will have made a positive difference in the world and that is what it is all about.

Blessings to you in 2013. I hope you make a difference!
Hugs~
